Currency of Nicaragua
The official currencies of Nicaragua are the Cordoba and the U.S. Dollar. Note that often times Nicaraguans refer to the Cordoba as a Peso. The Cordoba is not pegged to the value of the U.S. dollar, so its value relative to U.S. dollar declines over time due to the Central Bank of Nicaragua devaluing the currency over time.
It is fairly easy to exchange U.S. dollars for Cordoba and vice versa, however, exchanging other currencies is extremely difficult. Even trying to exchange other Central American currencies can be impossible unless you are close to the border of the country where those currencies originate. Finding a bank to exchange the Euro is extremely difficult, so it is recommended that you bring money in the form of U.S. Dollars.
The Cordoba is divided into one hundred centavos (cents) as well as ten reales.
